Impact investing app Circa5000 has hired Paul Spells as head of ETF sales for the UK ahead of the launch of its first ETFs in Q1 next year, ETF Stream can reveal.
Based in London and reporting to the firm’s head of investment, Charlie Macpherson, Spells (pictured) will be responsible for the initial distribution of its ETFs to UK brokerage platforms, wealth managers and independent financial advisers (IFAs).
Previously, Spells was a sales director at alternative investment adviser Orpheus Partners for two years.
Prior to that, he spent five years in business development roles at fund distribution specialists LGBR Capital.
Circa5000 co-founder Tom McGillicuddy told ETF Stream: “It is fantastic to have Paul on board. He joins with a wealth of sales experience which will be pivotal as we launch our first suite of ETFs in the UK next year.
“The whole team cannot wait to work with him in turning our ETF launch and future growth into a real success."
McGillicuddy previously said his firm plans to launch five impact ETFs targeting ecosystems and biodiversity, clean water and waste, climate tech, health and wellbeing, and social and economic empowerment themes.
Once the ETFs receive Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) approval, they will be passported to the UK, subject to Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) ‘recognition’.
McGillicuddy said his firm is planning a Europe-wide launch of its ETFs once they have been seeded, followed by more ETFs focused on green and impact bonds.
Spells’ hire is just the latest addition to Circa5000’s ETF team after the company recruited Magdalena Kowalik as its head of capital markets from Global X in October.
