The European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) has appointed Jim Goldie as chair of its ETF Task Force.
Goldie (pictured) replaces Keshava Shastry, former global head of capital markets at DWS, who left the German asset manager in March, ETF Stream revealed.
EFAMA’s ETF Task Force is responsible for engaging on key issues affecting the ETF industry including the transition to T+1 in the US and Europe, consolidated tape, the Central Securities Depositary Regime (CSDR) and ESG naming standards.
Commenting on the appointment, Goldie told ETF Stream: “In my new role as chair of the ETF Task Force I will be working closely with Federico Cupelli, deputy director for regulatory policy from EFAMA, doing my best to coordinate the views of the EFAMA member base and the ETF industry in policy matters that will help shape the future of the UCITS ETF industry.”
The shift from a T+2 to a T+1 settlement cycle in the US has raised several potential challenges for European ETFs, and has been a focal point for the industry this year, with some calling the potential misaligned approach a “nightmare”.
Most recently, the UK’s Accelerated Settlement Taskforce (AST) said the UK’s potential decision to move to a T+1 settlement cycle ahead of the European Union will not impact ETFs.
CSDR has also caused much consternation across the ETF industry with the proposed move likely to exacerbate current issues, according to a group advising ESMA.
