State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) has strengthened its ETF sales team in Germany with the appointment of Tobias Wittkamp from DWS.
In his new role, Wittkamp (pictured) will be responsible for intermediary ETF sales across Germany.
He joins having spent over five years at DWS as a team lead covering regional ETF sales in Germany. Prior to this, he worked as a private banker at Deutsche Bank for two years.
At SSGA, he will report to Markus Weis, Germany head of SPDR ETFs at SSGA.
Commenting on the appointment, Weis said: “We are delighted to have Tobias – another experienced ETF expert – join the team.
“We believe that his experience and knowledge of capital markets and ETFs will make a valuable contribution towards meeting our clients' needs and supporting our growth ambitions.”
Weis joined SSGA from Vanguard in July last year, replacing Stefan Kuhn who joined Fidelity International as head of ETF distribution for Europe last March.
According to Weis, SSGA has “big plans” for the German ETF market as it looks to target retail investors via partnerships with local banks and online brokers.
The region has become a key battleground for ETF issuers, with the number of people making monthly contributions to ETF saving plans in the country projected to hit 20 million by 2026, according to forecasts from BlackRock.
