UBS Asset Management has seen its ETF assets under management (AUM) have passed $100bn, officially becoming the fourth issuer in Europe to achieve this after BlackRock, DWS and Lyxor.
The milestone comes twenty years after the Swiss asset manager launched its first core equity ETFs in Europe in 2001.
UBS AM now has a grand total of 130 ETFs available to European investors, covering equities, fixed income, commodities and alternative strategies.
Over the past five years, the firm has beaten the European market average with an annual growth rate of 27%, which has seen its AUM more than triple from $30bn in 2016 to $100bn today.
Driving this has been its status as Europe’s second-largest provider of sustainable products. Having launched 17 new sustainable ETFs – including Paris-aligned strategies – since the start of the year, the firm’s sustainable suite now totals $35bn.
The firm added it has also benefitted from offering the widest range of currency-hedged share class ETFs within the UCITS ETF framework.
Commenting on the milestone, Clemens Reuter (pictured), global head of ETF and index fund client coverage at UBS AM, said: “The growth of our ETF business to $100bn is testament to our focus on investors’ needs and the breadth of our offering, providing a transparent and flexible way to invest across key markets and assets classes.”
Ian Ashment, head of systematic and index investing at UBS AM, added: “Our commitment to sustainable investing across our indexing business has helped the firm grow to become the second-largest European manager of indexed assets.”
In April this year, the firm’s UBS ETF Sustainable Development Bank Bonds UCITS ETF (MDBUA) broke the $1bn assets mark, extending its lead as the largest ETF in Europe targeting this segment of the fixed income market.
A month earlier, UBS AM launched 11 sustainable investing ETFs in March alone, including a seven-strong Paris-aligned suite:
UBS ETF MSCI EMU Climate Paris Aligned UCITS ETF (EMUPA)
UBS ETF MSCI Europe Climate Paris Aligned UCITS ETF (EURPA)
