The S&P Commodity Producers Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Index includes the largest publicly-traded companies involved in the exploration and production of oil and gas around the world. While the performance of these companies may generally be tied with the commodity price they mine or extract, it may also be impacted by the ability of the company to mitigate or hedge some of the commodity price risk. Companies are subject to typical equity risk, however.
