Environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing has exploded in recent years amid increasing regulatory pressure and a more socially-conscious investor set. Highlighting this, assets in sustainable investments have surged 34% since 2016 to over $30trn, according to the Global Sustainable Investment Alliance (GSIA).
ESG ETFs have become a major focus for investors and issuers have responded by launching a slew of products. However, a lack of consistent data and a whole host of different ESG screens makes selecting the right ETF a tricky task. This online event will explore the issues currently facing investors and the factors that will continue to drive the green revolution.
The event is exclusively aimed at buy-side professionals.
Participation is subject to approval by ETF Stream.

Over the past few years, regulators are taking a more active approach by introducing stricter rules around ESG standards. When will regulators introduce industry standard definitions to tackle these issues and is this needed?

This session will unwrap the latest development in the ESG space and assess how they will fit in an investor’s portfolio.

Passive bond funds with an explicit ESG mandate represent just 5% of the ESG bond market however there is a strong argument to say incorporating ESG criteria can make portfolios more resilient to credit rating downgrades and defaults. The tiny market has the potential for rapid growth however what factors will be driving this uptake?

While there is much hype around sustainable investing, ETFs with an ESG tilt only account for around $40bn of the $1trn European ETF market. Although this is growing, and at a rapid pace, the way investors incorporate sustainable products into portfolios remains a big question. Should they sit as core holdings or act as more satellite exposure?
