21Shares has hired Karan Chawla as vice president of product from Uber.

In his new role, Chawla will be responsible for building out the firm's product organisation and leading its product rollout.

He will be based in New York and report to Ophelia Snyder, co-founder and president of 21Shares.

Previously, he spent seven years at Uber as director, head of payments for the US, Canada and APAC regions.

Prior to this, he spent six years in consultant and analyst roles at Information Services Group (ISG), Huron Consulting Group and Oracle Corporation.

Commenting on the hire, Ophelia Snyder, co-founder and president of 21Shares, said:“Karan has an extensive history of defining and driving product strategies. He will be integral in helping to drive our product roadmap for hyper-growth.”

Chawla added: "With my experience in operations, international growth, maps, product strategy, and payments, I look forward to working with Ophelia and the team to continue making 21Shares the simplest way to enter the crypto market."

Chawla’s arrival follows the hire of Gurjeet Kundi as the firm’s managing director and head of trading from Mizuho.
