Former ETF Securities chief executive Mark Weeks has joined Moorgate Benchmark as a non-executive director.

The move follows ETFS Capital’s decision to invest in the index strategy and regulatory service provider in October.

Weeks (pictured), who is head of portfolio investments at ETFS Capital, will be the firm’s representative on the Moorgate Benchmarks board.

He joined ETF Securities as CEO in 2013 and oversaw WisdomTree’s $611m acquisition of the business before joining ETFS Capital.

Prior to ETF Securities, Weeks held senior roles at UBS and Goldman Sachs in the securities finance divisions.

Weeks commented: “I look forward to partnering with the team to help them achieve their mission to bring much-needed change to the index industry.”

Moorgate Benchmarks co-founders Tobias Sproehnle, CEO, and Gareth Parker, chairman, added: “Mark’s track record in empowering start-ups to maximise their potential coupled with his deep financial market expertise will be immensely valuable to us as we rapidly build out our offering.”

Founded in 2018, Moorgate Benchmarks seeks to enable index providers and product issuers to deliver new products to investors.
