abrdn has made its long-awaited entry into the European ETF market with the launch of an active global real estate strategy.
The Global Real Estate Active Thematics (GREAT) UCITS ETF (R8TA) is listed on the Deutsche Boerse with a total expense ratio (TER) of 0.40%.
R8TA is an active ETF that invests in a basket of listed real estate securities across 28 global markets.
Managed by abrdn’s indirect real assets team, the ETF is benchmarked against the FTSE EPRA NAREIT Developed index and utilises the firm’s Global Real Estate HouseView to identify themes within the sector.
These real estate trends include advancing technology, changing demographics and an increasing focus on sustainability.
R8TA is labelled Article 8 under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR).
Svitlana Gubriy, head of indirect real assets at abrdn, said: “R8TA is an active management strategy that builds on long-term thematics and seeks out opportunities in future trends for real estate assets.
Neil Slater, global head of real assets at abrdn, said: “Real estate is a thematically and macro-driven asset class. Offering clients exposure to these trends adds another investment option to clients looking for exposure to a traditionally illiquid asset class.”
The entrance comes months after abrdn registered two ETFs with the Central Bank of Ireland last November, ETF Stream revealed.
abrdn is the largest asset manager to enter the European ETF market since AXA Investment Managers launched its first ETFs last September.
Another entrant is investment manager Investlinx which launched two active ETFs on Borsa Italiana earlier this month.
