A growing number of ‘new’ French retail investors are using ETFs over the past year, according to a report from the from the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) and European Commission.
The report found 15% percent of investors have used ETFs within the last year, signalling strong momentum behind the wrapper in the region after ETF transactions made by French retail investors hit one million for the first time in Q1.
The findings also showed 24% have been investing in ETFs for one to two years, 30% for three to four years, 21% for five to ten years.
In addition, 36% of respondents are choosing ETFs focused on French and global equities, while 34% are opting for those capturing American equities.
Sustainability is also top of mind for many, with 63% expressing a preference for investing in SRI or ESG ETFs.
The report marks the latest example of the accelerated uptake the wrapper in the region, nearly half of French financial advisors say they plan to use ETFs within life insurance contracts, according to a BNP Paribas Cardif survey.
Shortly before, a report revealed ETFs now appear in half of all French life insurance contracts according to a joint report, published by Quantalys Harvest Group and BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM).
Elsewhere, ETFs overtook mutual funds as the passively managed vehicle of choice for retail and professional investors in Switzerland and France, according to a Research in Finance survey.
