BlackRock has appointed Tom Garland co-lead of the ETF development team within ETF engineering for EMEA.
Garland (pictured) joins from Société Générale where he was director of securities finance and delta one sales for UK, Israel and Africa.
He has also held similar positions at HSBC Global Banking and Markets, leaving as associate director for equity finance and delta one sales and trading.
The hire comes as BlackRock nears the $1trn assets under management (AUM) milestone in Europe, now housing $964bn as at the end of Q3, according to data from ETFbook.
BlackRock’s ETF business has seen significant asset growth as investors continue to flock to core-equity exposures, fuelled by the market’s ongoing rally.
Earlier this year, BlackRock said it was planning to lay off 600 staff as it looks to focus on key growth areas including technology, private markets and ETFs.
Elsewhere, Fidelity International poached active ETF product specialist Roxane Philibert from BlackRock as the industry continues to see a tussle for active talent.
