HSBC Asset Management has appointed Marta Bretones as head of ETF and indexing sales for Iberia from Santander Asset Management.
Bretones (pictured) will be responsible for leading the firm’s sales and business development efforts in Spain and Portugal.
Reporting to Stefano Caleffi, head of ETF sales for southern Europe at HSBC AM, she will work alongside the firm’s head of wholesale for Spain Shadia Fayad.
Bretones has over 25 years of industry experience and joins from Santander Asset Management where she spent over 18 years.
Her most recent role was as a senior portfolio manager where she led on fixed income and alternatives in the multi-asset team.
HSBC AM said the appointment will strengthen its sales strategy in the region after Fayad relocated from New York in January last year.
Caleffi commented: “Marta’s appointment represents another milestone in our plans to grow our ETF business in Iberia.
“With her extensive experience and knowledge of global markets, we are confident that Marta will play a key role in driving our product offering and serving the needs of our clients in Spain and Portugal.”
The Spanish ETF market is experiencing growth despite the 'Traspasos' tax regime, a tax break for mutual fund investors that allows them to defer their capital gains tax when switching between funds.
