MSCI has appointed Sandy Rattray and Paula Volent to its board of directors, effective 26 February.

Rattray (pictured) has been CIO of Man Group for three years since 2017. He also served as CEO of MAN AHL from 2013 to 2017 after spending 15 years with Goldman Sachs.

Notably, Rattray is co-creator of the VIX index, a popular measure of the US stock market's volatility.

Volent is the senior vice president for investments and chief investment officer at Bowdoin College. Prior to joining Bowdoin in 2000, she was also a senior associate at Yale investments office.

The recent appointments expand the board to 12 directors.

Henry Fernandez, chairman and CEO of MSCI, commented: “Volent is well versed in multi-asset class investments and asset allocation as demonstrated by her excellent track record managing a sophisticated endowment, and will help us further build our asset owner strategy.

“With his extensive asset management career and expertise in derivatives trading and volatility indexes, Rattray will be able to provide insights into the many use cases for indexes and the importance of risk management for our clients.”
