Vanguard has expanded its German retail platform with a new service offering self-directed investing in its own ETFs and mutual funds.
The new service, Vanguard Invest Direkt, comes 11 months after the firm launched its Vanguard Invest Anlageservice platform for advised index fund investments last February.
The firm said Invest Direkt is an execution-only service for ‘do-it-yourself’ investors and is meant to complement the Anlageservice, which uses questionnaires to assess client risk appetite and build tailor-made portfolios which are monitored and rebalanced over time.
The new investment offering will charge investors flat fees of €7 per trade and €25 for one-time investments and setting up monthly savings plans.
Clients will be able to access the service via the Vanguard Invest Direkt app, with all orders completed on the Deutsche Boerse exchange.
Commenting on the launch, Jesper Wahrendorf, head of Vanguard Invest, said: “We are now meeting three distinct investor needs by adding Vanguard Invest Direkt.
“One: for those investors that seek to build their own portfolio. Two: for investors seeking a low-cost, uncomplicated single-fund solution such as the Vanguard LifeStrategy ETF range. Three: for those that want Vanguard to build a custom portfolio based on their investment goal and risk tolerance.”
Sean Hagerty, head of Vanguard for Europe, added: “Today’s launch is a significant step in helping German investors participate in the capital markets whether it be for retirement or another important financial goal.
“We must ensure that every German saver is given the opportunity to harness the opportunities of the capital markets through low-cost, high-quality investment choices. Our expanded offer is looking to do just that for our investors.”
The new service expands Vanguard’s retail reach in Europe, which has been a key goal alongside rolling out its sustainable fund range. The firm has launched eight ESG ETFs and zero non-ESG strategies since its first ESG ETF debuted in March 2021.
