The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has appointed Alex Watkins to a role in exchange-traded product (ETP) business development after leaving Global X.
Watkins started his career at Hargreaves Lansdown in 2018 as an investment and pensions consultant before moving to lead the firm’s ETF research operation in 2020, a role he performed for three years.
In 2023, he moved to Global X as a product manager, spending 18 months with the firm.
The appointment of Watkins comes as the LSE looks to arrest its sliding market share. Earlier this year it was overtaken by Deutsche Boerse as Europe’s leading exchange by ETF listings.
Its ETF team after it was cut in half in May after head of ETFs Michael Stanley moved to Virtu and business development head Hetal Patel was poached by Cboe.
